Arctic today

August 18

By Bill Smith

Today, as never before, the problem of preserving the flora and fauna of the Arctic region is acute. In addition to Russia, a number of Scandinavian countries, such as Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Canada, fall into the zone of environmental interests of this unique region. Strange though it may seem, but to a greater extent only Russia, which has the area of the Arctic region from the Barents Sea to the Bering Strait, shows the greatest concern in terms of the environmental safety of the northern seas and adjacent coasts.
